Inter-character Relations - Deceased magi

James Nelly Tomas

This page has Inter-character relations, just like the real one. This page contains all the deceased magi of the Insula Maledictus. The relations on this page are organized by the magus on the headline, and what others thought of him.

James ex Guernicus

Absolon: I have only read stories of this man from the covenant's journals, and I don't want to base my opinion on those frail documents.

Bearnárd: I bet the old man had been sent to spy on me. He was a grumpy old man, who loved corpses. Why do they all have to come to our covenant? Still, he was pleasant enough to be around, as long as I kept my distance. It's good he's gone, since now there's only one pair of eyes watching my every move.

Caligula: At the time we needed him the most, he was not here. He would have been a great asset against Tomas "I worship Satan" ex Verditius.

James: I sometimes hoped that Insula Maledictus would bring me relief from my past mistakes, but absolution is not easily deserved. The years I spent on the isle have been pleasant and I have had long periods to be used in the quiet comfort of books and study. Still, the years that I foolishly spent in regret earlier start to take their toll on me. Perhaps it is better to leave for Greater Europe...

Nathair: I almost started liking him, but then he was called to Rome to do other duties. Was he spying on this covenant? Maybe not, for he seemed genuinely interested in improving our status.

Nelly ex Merinita

Absolon: Her open accusations against the Mother Church trouble me. I obey her word, for she is my elder, but there are limits. She might be approaching that edge too fast. But I don't know her past nor her motives to act like she does and those I must seek out first. Perhaps she is the calming and guiding voice that this covenant surely needs, but after the incidents of the winter 1197 I don't take her treading against the Holy Cross lightly. I do wonder why she gives so much power to Bearnárd in the council meetings?

Bearnárd: This strange half-woman is a potent maga, but does not cast spells. Quite an paradox for magi like me. Her vanity and urges to expand only her garderobe are sometimes irritating, especially when there is a job to do. She acts like a noblewoman, requiring luxury food, accomodation and - of course, clothes. I personally am growing tired of her games and her inactivity in the face of crisis. She should prove herself worthy of the post of Covenant Elder.

Caligula: Where was she?! Did some useful stuff, though. Though would have been an asset in the epic battle against Tomas "I worship Satan" ex Verditius.

James: Probably an offspring of a syphilis-infested whore and a faerie bastard. She should not be seen as one of the order. Very self-centered, too interested in trivial matters and easy to succumb to desires. I even hoped, that she would break the Code, for witches deserve to be punished. There is absolutely nothing good about her. Nothing.

Nathair: She is not to be trusted. Anything that comes from the twisted world of faeries is wrong, even though she has great power over imaginem. I do not need to prove her anything, I do not need anything from her. I need to keep my distance.

Tomas: What a waste of gift. To hold such power of terrible beauty and a thousand uses yet suppress it as a mere act of vanity. It would be high time for her to harness those powers for the benefit of the covenant, not her wardrobe.

Tomas ex Verditius

Absolon: I surely know that this traitor burns in Hell and shall cry for mercy until the end is here. I pity him not, for he gave me my first example of the reasons why people need the protecting cestus of God in the form of pious Men. God will not forgive him, of that I am sure. The rest of us will not forget either.

Bearnárd: Like all Verditius magi, he was good with magical items. Maybe we didn't take into account his dark past, and that decision backfired. His weakness for vis eventually led to his demise. If only people would have listened to me when they dealt out covenant positions; I told them not to concentrate all power in the hands of too few people. It's a good thing we don't have a leader in this covenant; that position would've been Tomas', and where would that have left us? In the future we need to be more careful, or all will be lost.

Caligula: Thou shalt not suffer a diabolist to live! For once my magic paid off. I wish I could have done more to him by mundane means, nothing humiliates magi more than harm from mundane things. His greed was his undoing. Tomas "I worship Satan" ex Verditius is no more. Now his corpse is thoroughly desecrated and his hind quarters witnessed a vengeance from Asia Minor never before witnessed in grandeur. I shall call it Goatse.

James: I learned to value the company of Tomas the most during my stay in the Calf of Man. He is a skilled scholar and usually thinks very clearly. He also respects privacy. I have heard the rumours about his past and therefore I kept a close watch on him, but those seem to be just rumours. Still I would have hoped for a possiblity to travel to Ireland to investigate these matters, but fate had another route for me... None the less, his opinions and powers in the council have usually directed the covenant to better paths. Greedy, of course. But we all have our flaws.

Nathair: Seclusive. I did not know him at all. He shared my passion towards magic and power, which combined with his endless greed was his downfall. I do not feel pity for his soul.

Opinions of the dead magi

James ex Guernicus

Absolon: Who is he? I have never heard about this man, but Flambeau... They usually mean trouble, for too much temper and anger lead to hasty and bad decisions...

Bearnárd: Secretive, there is something hidden about him. My superiors have warned me about him. His mastery of his arts is scary, for it provides him security that he does not necessarily deserve. His skill and innovativity with creating magical items has helped the covenant a lot, but I still wish that someone would keep an eye on him.

Caligula: As a redcap and our connection with the mundane world he deserves his pay. But as a magus, no. His reputation is no gossip, instead he deserves it. Homicidial, violent and uncivilised. I would even like to label him as an idiot, but he has had his moments. Still, a lesser magus and another one, who would need to be watched and trained.

Nathair: Young and ambitious. He needs tutoring but should be given more responsibility. I myself would be pleased to see him voting in councils instead of that faerie wench. When he learns to be more humble and proves himself in the next few years he is a valuable member of the covenant. Next to Tomas, I miss Nathair's companionship probably the most after my departure.

Nelly: Probably an offspring of a syphilis-infested whore and a faerie bastard. She should not be seen as one of the order. Very self-centered, too interested in trivial matters and easy to succumb to desires. I even hoped, that she would break the Code, for witches deserve to be punished. Tomas: I learned to value the company of Tomas the most during my stay in the Calf of Man. He is a skilled scholar and usually thinks very clearly. He also respects privacy. Tomas ex Verditius

Bearnárd: Under different circumstances he could be a powerful enemy. Stubborn and proud. Has proved his worth on many occasions though. If only he could be persuaded to see the world for what it really is: a prize waiting to be captured through power, intrigue and magic.

Caligula: I didn't like him at first but recently I have seen the reasons behind his behaviour. He doesn't hesitate to take what can be taken. An attitude that can get a man far these days... or to a shallow grave in the woods.

Nathair: Ahh... the child prodigy. Maybe it would be time to grant him a vote, if he knows where his allegiance lies. There might be more to him than he lets us see. Like that obviously exaggarated fear for birds. It's all for show I'm sure.

Nelly: What a waste of gift. To hold such power of terrible beauty and a thousand uses yet suppress it as a mere act of vanity. It would be high time for her to harness those powers for the benefit of the covenant, not her wardrobe.
