Fainey fendeilys(Fainey fendeilys is manx gaelic, meaning Ring of Defence) [ Back to the plans | Ring of Fire ] This ring is now ready (without the Herbam part, anyway). It was crafted with Magic Theory 6 (I've got the lab text). Short episode with the Earth Drake taught Bearnard the meaning of life. Since the biggest threat to Bearnard is mundane weapons (he has high Parma Magica) and casting spontaneous spells all the time to deflect blows is very tiring, I thought that this ring would come in handy. Not to mention that it is faster to make than the actual armor. Note for the future: This ring doesn't remove the threat from animals; their attacks go still through these spell effects. I'd need a ReAn in this as well, but sadly, there's no room for more. ;-) Vis
Form + Effect Bonuses
EffectThe effect is based on the Rego Terram guidelines, level 25: Keep metal objects Keep metal objects completely away from your person (that is, deflect all attacks against you from metal weapons, whether you are aware of them or not). It's Range is Near, Duration Concentration and Target Small. What I need is Personal, Concentration and Individual. Since some people use wooden weapons and arrows (especially after I have this ring - love your SG), I'll need some protection in the form of Herbam as well. Because the ring is iron, it requires 5 pawns to open the enchantment, giving space for 50 levels of effects. I can fit protection from metal/stone and wooden weapons in it easily, and there's still room for a small level 10 effect. And what would be better than add a little protection against unarmed attacks as well?
In Houses of Hermes there is some talk about Verditius' Runes. They allow the magus to gain at max +3 to his Lab Total when crafting items, when inscribing the runes on the item. I might as well use it; it will make the enchantment of ReHe effects a bit faster. (They are called Verditius' runes after their developer, but are available to all magi who know Magic Theory.) Optimizing the enchanting time: ReTe effect is instilled first, since it is the most useful one and Lab Total is the highest. ReCo comes second, since it is low leveled and therefore easy to instill. ReHe comes last, but because there are now two Rego-effects in the item, Lab Total is modified by +2. +3 from runes makes it possible to instill the effect in two seasons. The item is ready in 5 seasons. Studying Rego and Herbam would give +5 to Lab Total after two seasons, but after that both would slow down to +1 per season, so achieving Rego Herbam Lab Total of 40 is not worth it - for this item, anyway.
