Cliwe yn Vergagh(Cliwe yn Vergagh is manx gaelic meaning the Sword of Rusting.) Sometimes it pisses you off when people have too good armour or are too good when they are hitting you in melee. Well... What if something happened to their weapons when you parry their strike? Or if their armour just couldn't handle your mighty blow? That's what the Sword of Rusting is all about! There are no suitable Form and Effect Bonuses in either ArM4 or WGRE, so I'll have to cope with the arts I have. In ArM4 page 152 there is a spell, Rusted Decay of the Ten Score Years, which rusts the metal of the target so much, that it will break if used in a demanding way (strike a blow in combat, pry open a door) and loses its sharpness it might have had.
What good will it be, if the sword destroys everything it touches? Constant duration is not a good choice. You never know how much uses you need to have for an item (probably less than what I plan now), but since it doesn't hurt a bit in the lab totals, let's make the uses Unlimited (+10 spell effect). That leaves us with...
Since the effect is so low, there's no real need for a Terram-magus to open the item for enchantment. Making this item a lesser enchanted device will save vis, as calculated below.
So, it's 15 pawns of vis cheaper to make a lesser enchanted item, and the maker also saves 1 season worth of trouble. Bearnard's lab total in Perdo Terram is 40, and he can instill the 20th level effect in one season. Tremble, enemies! N.B. If there are leather armours or wooden weapons, PeAn and PeHe work just as fine. Also, if you don't have PeAn, PeHe or PeTe lab total of 30, lab total of 20 will do too, but then your uses per day are restricted to only 24 per day. |
