Amulet of Telepathy

You know how the char that could actually do something is never where he should be? The character cannot tell the right solution to the question because he actually does not know it, altough his player might. Telepathy would be nice, but it is not possible. Yet. That's why we began to think of different solutions, and ended up with this.

Possible Form and Effect Bonuses:

Possible item could therefore be a rock crystal hanging from a necklace, or an obsidian stone embedded in a ring.

According to the Guidelines in ArM4, spell effect would be

Creo Mentem, level 5: Form words in another's mind.
Basic Range: Eye
Basic Duration: Sun
Basic Target: Individual.

Since the item will be created to allow telepathic communication from far away, we need to increase the range from Eye to e.g. Far or Sight. This means an increase of 3 or 4 magnitudes (=> level 20 or 25). And since we want to be able to communicate all the time, we will make the item work Constantly: +5 levels.

We don't really need the amulet to be active for the Sun -duration. Concentration is a bit better (-1 magnitude), since the item works when you are concentrating to form the words in someone else's mind. Making the communication easier, we should raise the Basic Target to Group instead of Individual (+1 magnitude).

The final spell effect:

Creo Mentem, level 20: Form words in another's mind.
Basic Range: Far
Basic Duration: Concentration
Basic Target: Group.

One thing worth attention: If we only want to restrict the usage of the spell effect to the wearers of the rings, does it bring the level down? There is one modifier in ArM4, "Effect Use", which makes it impossible for others than earlier mentioned people to use the item. This raises the spell level by +3.

Bearnard doesn't really have a chance to make this item. On the other hand, if someone else makes it, (s)he makes her labtext while doing so. Someone else copying his/her work later receives the maker's Magic Theory as a bonus to his lab totals.
